Is it really possible that a fly on the wall ‘reality’ series can beat the likes of Downton Abbey, The Killing and Sherlock to pick up a BAFTA award? Yes it can and yes it did.
This is just what happened last night when the annual British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards were held. The Only Way is Essex crowd, including Amy Childs and Mark Wright, known more for catfights and clubbing and love triangles, were amongst all the luvvies of the acting world last night and walked away with the You Tube Audience Award.
Up against the pick of the drama world as they were, the cast were understandably shocked, as was I, at being victorious as they were up against such strong opposition, but the power of the (Essex??) people won out and the TOWIE fans voted their Essex favourites to pole position. Shuutttup!
Sherlock would probably have been my choice, but I didn’t vote so I can’t complain. You can only imagine what the likes of Hugh Bonneville and Benedict Cumberbatch thought when they heard the result. Oh myyy Goddd!
Wink Bingo certainly knew what they were doing when they chose to wrap their sponsorship ads around The Only Way is Essex. The exposure to millions that the series attracted in the first place is priceless and now that the programme has won an award I would expect the viewing numbers to grow even further when the third series airs in the autumn.
All those viewers that might pop along to Wink Bingo to pick up some of the generous welcome offers and to take part in the great games and giveaways that are always on offer are stuff of online bingo site dreams.
Keep up the good work TOWIE and Wink Bingo will be rolling out the red carpet for all the new players. Well done everyone.
