The shocking news of the sad and untimely death of pop superstar Whitney Houston means it’s a very sad day for music. While the exact details of how she died are still unknown, her death is another insight into how great talent and great wealth do not always make for great happiness.
The ’80′s and 90′s were when Whitney was at the height of her success and the range of her voice is what every aspiring X Factor star strives for, but none have managed to achieve it with the ease and grace of Whitney herself. ‘I will always love you’ from The Bodyguard will forever be associated with Whitney Houston even though it was originally a Dolly Parton song, and it is so much more tragic that this track will be played around the world this Valentine’s Day thanks to its enduring romantic theme.
The Grammy’s are almost upon us and Whitney was rumoured to be appearing as a herald to a full comeback to the music scene following a number of years of turbulance in her personal life that included a 14 year marriage that turned out to be a far from blissful to fellow performer Bobby Brown.
Whitney was found dead in her Beverley Hilton hotel room in Los Angeles and she leaves behind her 18 year old daughter Bobbi Kristina. The pop world has been tweeting its shock and its condolences. Mariah Carey manages to speak for millions by saying, “Heartbroken and in tears over the shocking death of my friend, the incomparable Ms. Whitney Houston.
“My heartfelt condolences to Whitney’s family and to all her millions of fans throughout the world. She will never be forgotten as one of the greatest voices to ever grace the earth.”
In recent years news of drink and drugs problems have overshadowed the great talent and took their toll on the wonderful Houston voice and ability to perform. As recenlty as May 2011 she was again admitted to Rehab for treatment. This has lead to speculation that there may have been serious money issues looming.
Whatever the reason for and cause of the sad and untimely death of Whitney Houston, the world has lost a powerful talent and she will be sadly missed. RIP Whitney Houston.
