July 2012 will be more famous in the future for being the month when more online bingo sites closed down than opened for the first time. That's a situation that has never been seen before and could herald a turning point in the industry as a whole.
This unnatural event could be brought about by the fact that there are less players around at this time of year due to holidays and the fact that they may be outside taking advantage of any nice weather that appears. This is 'the perfect storm' if you like, as it means that new bingo site launches are delayed until the autumn in many cases when player numbers pick up again, but also that any bingo sites that may be struggling for player numbers and revenue are going to be even worse off than usual.
The casualties in July were Wonder Bingo, SpinWin Bingo and 3am Bingo.
While 3am Bingo migrated to Mirror Bingo, Wonder Bingo in particular was a big surprise as it seemed to be a site that was doing everything right and delivering what players wanted, but for some reason could not keep them coming back in sufficient numbers. Those players were transferred to Bingo Palace.
Nevertheless, even in this climate of disappointment there was one shining star that bucked the trend and bit the bullet and opened for business. Lippy Bingo finally hit our screens during July, having been finally deemed good enough for public consumption. We say this as we have been anticipating the arrival of Lippy Bingo since late 2011.
While this is on the Dragonfish network yet again the personal touch is not missing and we expect the delivery of some exclusive rooms and great offers in the not too distant future to add to the very un-Dragonfish 250% welcome bonus on offer.
In this very quiet month Gala Bingo took the opportunity to launch its brand new platform too. This iconic brand has moved away from being a totally standalone online bingo site with its own unique software to being a site utilising Virtue Fusion software. However, it has very significantly maintained many of its standalone, non-networked rooms for the enjoyment of its players, who now get the best of both worlds.
While August might still be classed as summer, the weather is dictating otherwise and we hear that at least three new bingo sites may be opening for business this month. Stay tuned to WhichBingo for more.
