Online bingo by its very nature is available to players the world over, but different regulations in different countries make it hard for sites to offer a 'one size fits all' solution.
Spain is the latest country in the news that is looking to regulate its online gaming operations. The news does not appear to be good for any English speakers out there that might have enjoyed playing at their favourite sites whether on holiday or if they are there for a few months over the winter as many older people do or if they are permanent residents.
With effect from 1st June only firms with Spanish Government licences and a .es domain will be allowed to offer online gambling in the country.
This will seriously limit the value of the Spanish market to that originally anticipated by many firms. Add to this the fact that the Spanish Government is also considering a back tax on every operator granted a licence and many that have applied may think again. It is believed that about 60 operators originally applied for licences to operate in Spain and many of these may have been familiar British names looking to expand their international operations, such as Ladbrokes and William Hill, but these limitations may change their mind as to the potential profits to be made.
Online bingo itself has not been specifically mentioned within the legislation published and the worst case scenario is that this could mean that this form of gaming will not be allowed at all within the Spanish market.
The opening up of this market has been eagerly anticipated, but these leaked proposals could be raining on many a parade today.

What really jumps out from the reporting of these events at Dotty Bingo though, is the fact that one of the TV ads has been banned from being shown on daytime television and can only be shown after the watershed.
