Mecca Bingo has recently undertaken a survey inspired by the fact that it recently secured the rights to use the Blockbusters brand and has launched a new online bingo game based around the 80's television format and using letters instead of numbers. This is one fast bingo game, only having 26 letters to play with.
The Mecca Bingo survey asked a number of questions, such as favourite catchphrase, favourite game show host and which game show from the 80's should be given the 21st century treatment.
Not surprisingly, as the participants were Mecca Bingo players, the survey showed that the top catchphrase was “Can I have a P please Bob”, from the
original Blockbusters TV show, with 23% of the vote. Bullseye and Catchphrase still have a place in people's hearts as “look at what you could have won” by Jim Bowen and “say what you see” by Roy Walker were joint second with 16%.
Blockbusters Bob Holness did not fare quite so well in the favourite host section, coming fourth to Noel Edmonds at number one and Bruce Forsyth and Jim Bowen being second and third.
Quiz shows that should be brought back again resulted in Blockbusters being number one with 44% voting for its return. Charades game Give Us A Clue came in second at 15% and Sale of the Century was third with 14%.
Angus Nisbet, director of gaming at meccabingo.com said of the survey results, “Everyone remembers the tongue in cheek questions from the original Blockbusters so it’s no surprise that our customers have voted Can I have a P please Bob as their favourite. The program really was cult viewing back in the 80s and Bob was quick to respond to the double entendre requests so it’s no surprise people want to see the original back on our TV screens.”
Blockbuster bingo at Mecca Bingo has two prizes up for grabs every game and a new game starts every 2 minutes. Each ticket has 20 letters and the game is won when a column or line is filled. When one goes the game continues until the other is won. Should the letters B,I,N,G,O, be the first five drawn a community jackpot of £5,000 will be shared amongst all the players in that game.
