Bingo is not regarded usually as the most rowdy of events, except maybe for the previously written about Rebels, but then they are usually teenagers or young people in their twenties. The news today is full of the fact that a group of seventy pensioners, some even in their nineties that are enjoying their bingo and music nights a little too much and have been threatened with asbo's.
Disputes have arisen within a sheltered housing estate in Great Barr, Birmingham, between two different sections of the community - one that is looking for peace and quiet and regarded the complex as a retirement paradise that had been turned into a nightmare by their noisy, late night loving neighbours and the second that 'refuse to vegetate' and want to continue having a good time.
It is not clear how the matter will be resolved, but it is clear that the bingo loving crowd will not give up their favourite game easily, but the local council have admitted that possibly issuing the threat of an asbo might have been a little over the top.
It is always possible that the Mecca Bingo trend for After Dark Bin-glo might appeal to the music and bingo loving pensioners and will save their neighbours ears. The Mecca bingo clubs that run these sessions have glow in the dark equipment, pyrotechnics and a revamped music system.
These club sessions also include other regular scheduled events that might appeal to the group, including quiz nights and Sing-a-long-a Bingo which replaces numbers with song clip.
It is also possible that maybe they could develop an interest in bingo online -they could have the fun of learning about the internet and they could talk to each other in the chat rooms - that should keep the neighbours happy.
We don't want bingo to get a bad name so lets hope these two different groups of people can find a happy compromise soon.
