UK broadcaster FIVE has launched a new web-based bingo TV programme entitled 'The FreeBingo Show' in an attempt to broaden its revenues.
The move comes many months after televised bingo seemed to be in fashion in the UK, where shows like Bingo Night Live aired on terrestrial TV in 2008 before eventually being pulled.
'The FreeBingo Show' will be streamed on the web at http://www3.five.tv/freebingogame every day at 11am for one hour and will help drive traffic to the new pay-to-play online bingo site, FiveBingo.tv, which is powered by PartyGaming PLC.
Tickets for The FreeBingo Show are free and winners can choose receive a cheque or credit in their FiveBingo.tv account. The show is presented by Charlie McArdle.
Jonathan Lewis, Five’s Head of Digital Media, said: “The business model that underpins commercial TV is changing and broadcasters must diversify their revenue streams. Gaming activities such as Five’s online bingo and casino services are just one such example of how broadcasters can broaden their revenue base beyond traditional sources.”
The move by FIVE to diversify revenues comes after recent changes by Ofcom to the rules on teleshopping.
