Over Christmas Gala Bingo’s TV channel ‘Gala TV’ gave several lucky viewers some fantastic Christmas presents thanks top their ‘Festive Full House’ promotion, which was played through December.
The promotion asked players to nominate undiscovered heroes who they felt deserved a special present this Christmas. The first winner to be surprised by a visit from presenter Mike Mason and the Gala TV crew was Dorna Wellings, from Macclesfield and was nominated by daughter Tina Wellings. The 61-year-old had suffered a number of health problems, this has meant she is unable to move house to be closer to her beloved family. Therefore, Gala TV stepped in to give her lounge a surprise makeover. Delighted Dorna said: “We would never have been able to redecorate without Gala TV. Because I’m unwell it’s a real struggle, so it’s such a relief that they’ve done it all for me. We’re going to have the best Christmas ever!”
The second surprise was given to Paul Humphries from Kent, he had all his Christmas dreams come true thanks to a nomination by his wife, Alison. Alison, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis several years ago and recently her condition has worsened. This has meant that Paul needed to give up work to become her full-time carer, and support their four children. Gala TV hand delivered Paul two tickets to the recent Liverpool vs Arsenal home game, a signed shirt and tour of the Anfield ground! Paul was totally surprised and said: “Alison and I were due to go out to do some Christmas shopping for the family, but she seemed to be taking a lot more time to get ready than usual. When Gala TV turned up at my door, I suddenly realised that she had been in on the surprise, which was lovely!”
The final winner was Howard Abell. He was given the chance to become a bingo caller on Gala TV, after his nomination by his partner, Claire Wilson. In September the 34-year-old, from Doncaster, slipped while playing with their two children on a bouncy castle and broke his sternum chest bone causing six weeks off work. Being self-employed the leave was unpaid, which was difficult for the family. To make matters worse Howard’s new work van was involved in a crash! As part of the surprise Claire led Howard to believe she had won a weekend in London and a visit to the Gala studios. It was while they were there that Howard was given the opportunity to be a Gala TV bingo caller. Howard said: “The visit to the studios was brilliant fun! I’ve been a Gala Bingo fan for years and Claire and I both love playing bingo games online and watching Gala TV together, so it was great to see behind the scenes. Everyone at Gala TV was really nice to both of us. It was great to do something really different. It was a fantastic experience.” Gala TV’s manager, Kevin Loman, said: “We’re thrilled that Gala TV’s Festive Full House competition has made such a difference to Dorna, Paul and Howard this Christmas. We wish them all happiness for the New Year.” Gala TV awards 200,000 winners a year and gives away approximately £20,000 each night in prize money.
Gala TV awarded over 200,000 winners in 2009 and gives away approximately £20,000 every night. It can be viewed on Sky TV, Freesat and live via GalaBingo.com.
