The very popular Mecca Bingo Hall in Southend has been given the all clear to procede with plans for a £1.5 million facelift.
Included in the new plans is a brand new bar and resturant upgrade, which will also feature new outside seating and overall better facilities.
The news of the revamp has been greeted with great excitment from regular players at the hall. Margeret Murphy has been playing at the hall since it first opened in 1992. She told the Southend Standard: "At the moment it is all up in the air. But they reckon we are going to have super loos and this outside area with tables". Mrs Murphy currently plays twice a week, but she now expects to go even more!
This latest modernisation follows the the building of the brand new Mecca Bingo in Beeston, Nottingham. Although the new plans in Southend will not be as grand, its certainly a strong signal of intent from Mecca. Which Bingo were invited along to Mecca Beeston once it had opened last year.
