Bingo Stars, the TV bingo game launched by the owners of Bingos is closing it was announced today. According to the company's Managing Director, Martin Higginson, Bingo Stars performed so badly it was "significantly lower than the lower end forecasts". In simple terms it was a financial disaster for the company.
In April the Company (NetPlay TV) entered into an agreement with ITV for a six month trial to broadcast 'Bingo Stars' amongst other gaming formats that it supplies. This ran on ITV1. During this trial NetPlay TV built it's in-house “Bingo Stars”, although their online game, Bingos, previously ran on Playtech software and had recently moved to Virtue Fusion.
NetPlay TV had high hopes of cracking the TV Bingo market where so many others have failed, and expected what they describe as 'significant returns'. Unfortunately the launch of “Bingo Stars” did not deliver the player numbers they expected and over the days and weeks after the launch they worked to alter the format, as well as start times. Although this saw some very minor improvements, the overall response and, according to the company, player values remained very disappointing.
Their statement to the city stated "Unfortunately the soft gaming 'Bingo Stars' tele-shopping format did not work. As such we have now terminated the Bingo Stars product and replaced it with the Challenge Jackpot brand."
