A brand new play called "Everybody Loves a Winner" starts next month in Manchester and will feature a real life game of bingo with full audience participation.
The play has been created for the Manchester International Festival and will run from 1st July 2009 at the Manchester Exchange Theatre. The creator Neil Bartlett, decided on the idea when he was made aware that his local bingo hall in Brighton was closing, and he went to see the auditorium and took part in playing bingo.
After this Bartlett spent many days playing bingo and spent a year gathering research in order to complete the play.
The theatre has been set out like a real bingo hall and has had to apply for a bingo license in order for a live bingo game to take place. As the bingo game will be unpredictable the actors will be forced to perform without a script for parts of the play, the winner will be given a prize but this has yet to be announced.
The story of the play will focus around what features of bingo keep players coming back and if winning is more important than taking part.
