A man working for a Granada Bingo Hall in Liverpool was shot by a youth after he confronted two people in the car park.
The 65 year old man is believed to have argued with the two youths, until they left riding a motorbike. The man is believed to have followed them before one produced a hand gun and shot the him in the leg.
Fortunately the bingo worker has only suffered minor injuries and is recovering in hospital.
Detective Chief Inspector Richie Davies told BBC News: "This was a cowardly and violent attack on a man who had been at work at the local bingo hall.
"We take all incidents of this nature extremely seriously and I would like to reassure the community that we are determined to catch those responsible and get them and the weapon that was used off our streets."
The car park has been closed by police and a full investigation is underway.
