Another Popular Bingo Hall Bites the Dust

This week, the much-loved Fife branch of Buzz Bingo announced on Facebook that it will not be reopening its doors as part of Scotland’s roadmap out of lockdown.

The post states that the Glenrothes club is closing permanently”. However, it stresses that the decision “was not our choice, and despite our best efforts, it was ultimately out of our control”.

The Fife team say that they are “devasted” for both themselves and their customers, and they’ve taken the opportunity to thank the many players and staff who have helped to keep the club running since it first opened on 6th September 2018.

The venue originally traded as Gala Bingo but was relaunched in 2018 when Gala retail was sold and rebranded under the name Buzz Bingo.

The club is directing its customers to the nearest Buzz Bingo hall in Dundee, as well as two other clubs which are located in nearby Falkirk and Meadowhall.

The Glenrothes venue is the first casualty for Buzz Bingo in 2021 since it announced that it would be permanently closing 26 clubs back in July 2020. At the time, a spokesperson for the popular bingo chain said that the reduction in venues was being taken due to an “unsustainable operating environment for the foreseeable future”. It also believed that it would take a considerable time for footfall at its remaining clubs to recover from pre-pandemic levels due to weaker customer confidence and new social distancing measures.

It’s extremely sad to lose any bingo hall, and we sincerely hope that the Fife club closure will prove to be a one-off.

Currently, bingo halls and casinos in England and Scotland are hoping to reopen from 17th May 2021 provided that there are no changes to the governments’ respective roadmaps. Northern Ireland and Wales have yet to confirm potential reopening dates.
