While UK laws and Gambling Commission licencing requirements mean that all UK bingo operators must promote safer gambling, one particular operator has been recognised for its extra efforts in this area. Entain has just been awarded GamCare’s Advanced Safer Gambling Standard after acing an independent assessment.
What is the Advanced Safer Gambling Standard and why is it important?
GamCare’s Safer Gambling Standard offers operators the chance to achieve four different levels, starting at Base Level and ending at Advanced Level 3. The Standard is an indication of how well an operator undertakes and promotes responsible gambling and interacts with its customers.
When GamCare assesses an operator, its independent assessors look at 10 key areas and judge as many as 58 different criteria to find evidence that the operator meets its standards.
To achieve the highest level (Advanced Level 3), the company must achieve a pass rate of between 61% and 100%.
Entain has been awarded Advanced Level 3 for its online activities and Advanced Level 2 for its land-based activities.
GamCare’s Head of Industry Standards confirms that Entain’s safer gambling measures “go beyond the social responsibility provisions” of its gambling licence.
The operator has always shown commitment to protecting its players, and last year, it raised the bar by introducing its ARC (Advanced Responsibility and Care) programme which enables it to tailor its player protection tools to each individual. As a result, it has seen a 120% rise in the number of customers that take advantage of its safer gambling tools (such as deposit limits and loss limits) and a 30% drop in players displaying signs of gambling harm.
Who is Entain?
Entain, which was formerly known as GVC Holdings, is one of the biggest UK gambling operators. It owns casino, bingo, and sports betting brands, including several household names like Ladbrokes, Coral, Bwin, Foxy Bingo, and Gala Bingo.
In 2020, WhichBingo’s panel of independent judges voted Gala Bingo the Most Socially Responsible Operator in our annual WhichBingo Awards.
What role does GamCare play in online and land-based bingo?
GamCare operates the National Gambling Helpline and provides support, advice, and information relating to safer gambling and treatment. It also helps players find “assured businesses” that have been awarded the Safer Gambling Standard.
