Trial sessions allowing pet owners to bring their beloved pooches to bingo have been taking place across the UK. Buzz Bingo announced the sessions after research revealed that dog owners are unable to spend as much time with their pets as they did during lockdown.
National Dog Day has become an annual event that is recognised worldwide. There’s even a National Dog Day website that offers owners ideas on how to celebrate, a list of dog-friendly cars, and a list of rescue partners.
While many of us were stuck at home during the worst stages of the COVID-19 pandemic either working from home or being on furlough, the pet owners among us were able to put some of our spare time to use by enjoying the company of our animals more.
Now that lockdown restrictions have eased and some people have been recalled to their offices, there’s less time to spend with our pets. However, thanks to National Dog Day, one of the UK’s biggest land-based bingo chains has helped some of its players achieve a better pet-life balance.
Doggy bingo trials
Following a recent survey of UK dog owners, it’s been shown that we’ve spent 28 million fewer hours with our pets since the easing of lockdown restrictions. Plus, since ‘Freedom Day’, almost 40% of people who own a dog say that they feel guilty having to leave their beloved pets home alone.
Luckily, Buzz Bingo recognises how hard it can be to return to the real world at the expense of our doggos, especially when many venues don’t allow dogs.
According to Buzz’s Mark Fletcher, the company wants to “make it easier for our customers to come out and socialise without the guilt of leaving their pups alone”. Hence it ran its first-ever Dog Bingo sessions at Buzz Bingo clubs across the UK to celebrate National Dog Day.
At the special pet-friendly bingo sessions, the animals were treated to ‘pawsecco’ and ‘pup-corn’ while their owners were able to enjoy a glass of bubbly.
It’s great to see such a big bingo operator helping out our four-legged friends, and with a bit of luck, Buzz Bingo will be holding more Dog Bingo sessions soon!
