Incorrect parking fines have been issued to some visitors to a Stockton bingo club last month. After further investigation, complainants have been told that they were issued incorrectly. It appears that the problem lies with the company that operates the venues parking facilities.
Not everyone who visits a bingo hall is lucky enough to come home a winner, but you don’t expect to receive a £100 parking fine in the post either.
Unfortunately, this is exactly what happened to many visitors to a Mecca Bingo club in Teeside last month, leaving a sour taste in many of their mouths.
Who is affected?
According to one customer, “hundreds” of customers have been incorrectly fined.
Where did it happen?
The parking facilities belonging to Mecca Bingo at Chandler’s Wharf in Stockton.
How was the error identified?
Luckily, one bingo player was shocked enough to contact Mecca Bingo to query why she had been sent two parking fines in the post even though she had correctly entered her vehicle’s registration number when visiting the venue.
When Mecca Bingo queried the fines with Minster Baywatch (the parking company that looks after the on-site parking), it was told that the fines issued between 11th and 14th June 2021 were incorrect and should be ignored.
The player who complained has since received a letter that confirms the two fines (worth £100) will be cancelled. It also advises that if the fine has already been paid, the recipient will receive a full refund in due course.
What does Mecca Bingo have to say?
A spokesperson for Mecca Bingo has since told local journalists that the error was “a temporary issue” that it has been made aware of, and they have apologised to any customers that have been affected by the incident.
Mecca has also confirmed that all affected customers should have either had their penalty notices cancelled or their payments refunded.
Is it safe to park at Mecca Bingo Stockton now?
Yes, as the problem has now been rectified, customers can once again park with confidence at Mecca Bingo Stockton.
