With all the online bingo site closures that have been taking place this year (56 so far, with at last another 20 scheduled) you could be forgiven for thinking that online bingo might have had its day. Well, we at WhichBingo like to keep our finger on the pulse of all things bingo and we can tell you that the industry is far from dead. Instead we see the rationalisation of the amount of sites as a good thing and when we look around and see what the bingo providers are doing it makes us very excited.
The latest piece of good news comes from Microgaming. Just a couple of weeks after the Chief Commercial Officer at Microgaming, Jean-Luc Ferriére was giving interviews about the renaissance of online bingo and the whole new lease of life the younger generation are bringing to game, his firm has announced a very strategic bingo appointment. Industry stalwart Leon Thomas has been brought in by Microgaming as its Managing Director of Bingo.
Leon Thomas first came to our attention when he was the Managing Director at Tombola at the time the brand really started to become a driving force in bingo in the UK. He also expanded the product into Spain and Italy – notoriously tricky waters. He then took his expertise to The Rank Group, Mecca Digital, CAESARS, NYX Gaming and joins Microgaming from lottery and bingo games developer Instant Win Gaming. Thomas is now coming back to dedicate himself to the bingo product at Microgaming and that is good news for fans of great online bingo games.
The plan is that as the new Managing Director of Bingo for Microgaming Thomas will focus his efforts on the bingo product to ensure maximum value and success and to ensure that the product reaches its target audience and grows that audience.
Thomas himself says of this appointment,
“I am delighted to be appointed Managing Director of Bingo for one of the gaming industry’s foremost entertainment providers. Microgaming has a fantastic platform, and given its scale and reach, it is set to substantially grow the bingo side of its business.”
On behalf of Microgaming its CEO John Coleman commented,
“We are pleased to welcome Leon to the Microgaming family. With his immense experience in online gaming and knowledge of both B2B and B2C industries, Leon will play a leading role as we continue to maximise the value, success and growth of our bingo vertical.”
We can’t wait to see how bingo develops over at Microgaming sites such as Butler’s Bingo.
