ICE moves from February to April 2021 amidst COVID concerns
The organisers of ICE have confirmed that next year’s planned event will now take place in April 2021 instead of early February following “discussions with the market” about COVID-19 impacts.
ICE is the world’s number one gaming innovation show which takes place once-a-year in London at the Excel centre. It sees over 35,000 professionals from multiple gaming sectors come together to look at over 600 new and innovative solutions from major exhibitors like SBTECH, Trustly, BetInvest, Amatic Industries, Elk Studios, SkillOnNet, and Aristocrat.
Clarion Gaming is also expected to announce additional safety measures for next year’s event such as a smaller visitor capacity and exhibitor requirements.
The postponement of ICE 2021 is likely to impact the LAC (London Affiliate Conference) which usually takes place straight after ICE at the same exhibition centre.
Gambling Commission opens consultation into slot game design
A new consultation, which forms part of a comprehensive package of work that the UK Gambling Commission is carrying out to try and make online gambling safer for consumers, kicked off this week.
The consultation specifically looks at online slots and how they could be better designed to help prevent problem gambling. This is because although online slots are not as popular as gambling products such as sports betting, they provide operators with the largest Gross Gambling Yield (GGY).
The UKGC is concerned that online slot games are often built with certain features that have the potential to increase the intensity of play. Examples include auto-play and quick spin.
At the same time, the Gambling Related Harm All-Party Parliamentary Group is calling for a £2 stake limit for online slots which would be in line with the stake limit that was imposed on Fixed Odds Betting Terminals last year.
GambleAware releases research data on female problem gambling
Another group which aims to help better protect consumers from gambling harm is the independent charity, GambleAware.
GambleAware has just released the findings of a recent study that it undertook to better understand the reasons why some women develop gambling addictions.
The research concludes that women experience gambling harms “in different ways to men”. For example, 35% of female respondents compared to 9% of men say that they are being negatively affected by their spouse or partner’s gambling. Plus, 35% of female gamblers come from a BAME background. Also, more women than men say that stigma is the key reason why they have not sought treatment.
Microgaming launches Arthur’s Gold slot
If you’re fascinated by the tales of King Arthur, the Knights of the Round Table, and the mystical isle of Avalon, you may want to check out the latest slot game from Microgaming.
Arthur’s Gold was developed by one of Microgaming’s independent software developers, Gold Coin Studios, and it’s a 5-reel slot which offers high volatility and prizes of up to 4,000 times your total stake.
The game includes wild symbols that can help to form winning combinations, and scattered treasure chests that can unlock the Free Spins Bonus.
The Free Spins Bonus includes special wilds which automatically expand to fill the reels before awarding a re-spin.
