Against Mandatory Limits on Gambling

NewzBitez – 56% Against Mandatory Limits on Gambling Spend

The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) recently commissioned YouGov to undertake a survey to see how players feel about the possibility of new gambling laws preventing them from spending what they like. The results showed that 56% of people are opposed to the government introducing mandatory spending limits, while 65% are worried that introducing limits will push people towards black-market sites that are less likely to undertake affordability checks.

Some of the survey respondents were concerned that having to provide evidence (such as bank statements) to prove that they can afford to gamble is “like something from a Big Brother-style country”. The BGC welcomes any moves to protect players from gambling harm but wants the government to focus on those who are at risk and not “the overwhelming majority” of Brits who gamble responsibly.
