The old Mecca Bingo Hall in Preston’s Fishergate area is in the process of being demolished to make way for new student flats. The council approved the developer’s planning request last year, and in the past week, Demolition Services Ltd has begun dismantling the building to make way for the new student accommodation. The new site will include bedrooms for 276 students and will also offer extensive bicycle parking and landscaping. As a homage to its previous owners, the building is being named Rialto House.
The bingo hall was one of several that Mecca Bingo decided it would not be reopening after the first lockdown. At the time, the brand’s operations director said that the club would miss its “incredible customers” having enjoyed being part of the local community for 18 years.
