The High Court Approves Allwyn National Lottery Takeover

NewzBitez – The High Court Approves Allwyn National Lottery Takeover

Having held the UK’s National Lottery licence for the past 30 years, Camelot is being ditched in favour of Allwyn. While the Gambling Commission announced its decision relating to the future of the licence back in March of this year, Camelot has been none too happy with the way it believes the Commission handled the bidding process and went on to launch a legal appeal in April.

This week, the High Court sided with the Gambling Commission, enabling the Allwyn takeover to go ahead in 2024. The Commission had appealed to the court to overturn the temporary stay-put order due to concerns that it could cause “potentially severe consequences” to both the National Lottery and the good causes that it helps. However, the move has not stopped Camelot from continuing with its legal challenge against the regulator, and a trial is expected to commence between October 2022 and January 2023.
