What is Mecca Fest All About?

Even if you have never played bingo yourself you are sure to know the name Mecca Bingo. It is part of the subconscious structure of the UK. You will have seen them driving around any town or city all your life; they are simply part of the landscape – an old friend. Spring forward to more modern times and you can’t fail to have seen the brand advertising its online bingo site on TV with some fairly quirky and memorable advertisements. Who remembers the dancing cactus? Or a field full of people doing the ‘Meccarena’?

They were big, but now Mecca Bingo has come up with something even bigger. Mecca Fest is coming to Blackpool Tower Ballroom on Saturday 30th May. A fun evening of singing, dancing, games and giveaways is promised. There’s a massive £100,000 prize fund for games on the night!

The build-up has started now to what promises to be a spectacular event. Not only are there loads of ways to win tickets on-site, but the event has attracted a lot of attention from the mainstream press too because of its size and the number of celebrities involved.

Who are the celebrities at Mecca Fest?

Joe Swash – Master of Ceremonies: The first ‘face’ revealed when Mecca Fest was first announced was Joe Swash. Joe is famous for being in EastEnders as hapless Mickey Miller until 2008. Soon after that he entered the jungle in I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! and took the King of the Jungle Crown. He went on to host the spin-off Get Me Out of Here Now/Extra Camp from 2009 to 2018. Currently best known for appearing on Dancing on Ice 2020 and being dad to Rex with partner Stacey Solomon.

Mecca Fest Performers

Peter Andre – Performing: He may have sung Mysterious Girl back in the day, but Peter Andre is no mystery to bingo lovers. He has been associated with many online bingo sites over the years, from Gala to Wink, but this is probably the biggest bingo event he has been part of yet. He fell in love with Katie Price during I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here and married her and had two children. They divorced and he now has two more children with Emily MacDonagh, a physician no less!

Sister Sledge – Performing: Best known for the 1979 iconic hit single and album ‘We are Family’ Sister Sledge is the personification of 70’s disco.

Scott Mills – Performing: Popular Radio1 DJ and star of Strictly Come Dancing. Scott will be behind the decks to get everyone dancing in the ballroom.

Robin Windsor and Kristina Rihannoff – Performing: These ex-Strictly Come Dancing professionals will be dancing up a storm in the home of ballroom dancing and showing everyone how it is done. Both were on Strictly for a number of years and had professional partners including Jason Donovan, Patsy Kensit and Simon Webbe – some of whom have also been known to take part in Mecca events.

From there we get a long list of soap stars and reality TV favourites.

Kelvin Fletcher – Emmerdale favourite who will be a big attraction after his recent turn on the Strictly dancefloor.

Katie McGlynn – Sinead from Coronation Street who recently left the show in a powerful cancer storyline, walking away with the NTA award for 2020 for Best Serial Drama Performance. Hoping to make it in Hollywood, via being the face of Mecca Bingo.

Mecca Fest Celebs

Duncan James from Blue is now more reality than pop and has also done previous work with Mecca Bingo.

Love Island is well represented with Jack Fincham, who won with Dani Dyer, Michael Griffiths, who famously dumped eventual winner Amber Gill and Georgia Harrison appearing.

Geordie Shore and TOWIE provide the rest in the form of Bobby Norris, Nathan Henry and Charlotte Crosby.

This is an exceptional bingo event and great news in that regular players will have a good chance of winning – this site is not all about what can be offered to new members. This is about going the extra mile to put something out there that is really worth playing for.

Increasing the profile of Mecca Bingo

The scale of this event has really captured media attention, particularly the involvement of Katie McGlynn. The fact that this is being labelled a ‘Fest’ and has music and dancing and the talent from reality shows aimed at the younger end of the market has got everyone excited that once again bingo is being shown to be not just a game for older people. It is being said this could be the start of rivalling the outrageous activities of Bongo’s Bingo, but we wouldn’t go that far – not in the Blackpool Tower Ballroom anyway!

James Boord, Mecca Bingo digital director, said of the event:

We want to make sure that our customers are at the heart of what we do when it comes to delivering great experiences. To really achieve something exceptional, we need to constantly innovate and explore new ideas. ‘Mecca fest’ is a key part of the broader challenge we are embracing at Rank.

WhichBingo hopes to be there to be able to bring you all the details as they happen.
