Arctic Magic Review
Arctic Magic is a simple slot in the traditional sense with 5 reels and 3 rows. The entire spinning of the reels in this game takes place against the background of a huge Nordic mountain, lit up by the appearance of the northern lights.
There’s nothing much in the Arctic. It’s a freezing cold, inhospitable place made up largely of ice floes and not a lot else. One thing they don’t have at all in the Arctic are casinos, so anyone who finds themselves in this barren wasteland will just have to make do with online casino games, as long as they can find for themselves a decent internet connection!
Online slots set in the Arctic are nothing new, and our slots reviewers here at WhichBingo often find themselves shivering with imagined cold and blowing on their hands to warm them up while playing such games. The slots gurus at Microgaming though obviously think that there are not enough online Arctic-based slots as late in 2019 they added another to that specific collection – Arctic Magic!
How to Play
Arctic Magic is a simple slot in the traditional sense with 5 reels and 3 rows. The slot also has only nine paylines. To start this game, you first need to select the size of the coin you are going to play with. This can be anything from 0.01 to 5.00. As there are nine paylines it costs nine coins to spin the reels here, giving a range of total bet sizes from 0.09 to 45.00.
When you are happy with the size of your bet, hit the spin button. To win a prize you need to land a minimum of two identical symbols on a payline from the left-hand reel onwards.
The Arctic Magic logo acts as the wild symbol in this game and substitutes for all other symbols.
- 5 x Wild Symbols = 10,000 coins (max £50,000)
- 5 x Scatter Symbols = 4,500 coins (max £22,500)
- 5 x Polar Bear Symbols = 750 coins (max £3,750)
- 5 x Arctic Wolf Symbols = 750 coins (max £3,750)
- 5 x Arctic Deer Symbols = 400 coins (max £2,000)
- 5 x Arctic Fox Symbols = 250 coins (max £1,250)
- 5 x Arctic Hare Symbols = 250 coins (max £1,250)
- 5 x Ace Symbols = 125 coins (max £625)
- 5 x King Symbols = 125 coins (max £500)
- 5 x Queen Symbols = 100 coins (max £500)
- 5 x Jack Symbols = 100 coins (max £500)
- 5 x Ten Symbols = 100 coins (max £500)
- 5 x Nine Symbols = 100 coins (max £500)
As it’s hard to spend money in the Arctic, Microgaming have failed to furnish this game with any kind of progressive jackpot. The most you can win is £50,000, which is achieved by netting five wild symbols.
The scatter symbol in this game is a glowing snowflake or star. You win cash if you land two of them anywhere on the reels, and if you land three you are awarded 15 free spins.
During free spins, all wins you may gather are multiplied by a factor of three. Free spins can be retriggered. All lines and bets that are played are done so at the same rate as the spin that triggered the free spin feature. All scatter wins are multiplied by the total bet, and all scatter wins are added to any payline win.
Double Wild Win
If you complete any winning line that contains a wild symbol, then your entire win for that spin is doubled in value and added to your slot balance.
Graphics and Sounds
The entire spinning of the reels in this game takes place against the background of a huge Nordic mountain, lit up by the appearance of the northern lights. It’s a gorgeous graphic. The symbols themselves are all fairly basic with barely any animation. They do light up when you win, though. The only animation comes from the wild and scatter symbols, both of which swirl about a bit when you land them in a winning combination. When you do obtain a win, a blue light flashes across the winning payline to let you know upon which payline you have been the most successful.
The music used as background for this slot is one of the best tunes we’ve yet encountered in all our of years of slotting experience. It’s strings and piano in a chilled-out mode with a lazy beat. We’d be willing to play this slot just so we could listen to the music! The rest of the sounds fit in well with the overall feel of the slot.
They seldom make slots like this anymore, which many people will consider to be something of a shame. It has wonderful graphics, a dazzling soundtrack, wilds, scatters, free spins and not a lot else. Do you really need that much more?
