Starburst Galaxy Slot Review
Starburst Galaxy is a follow-on game from one of the most popular slot games available to spin anywhere online, Starburst.
All of the classic elements from this NetEnt slot are back as players are transported to outer space and surrounded by both planets and stars. There can be between 5 and 7 reels and payouts are awarded using the cluster pays mechanic. As you spin the various coloured gem symbols, a large variety of bonus features can trigger. This includes wild symbols, avalanches, a feature generator with 5 random features, a galaxy star feature, a galaxy meter, a mega star feature and a multiplier collect meter. The maximum potential win in this slot game is 25,000x your stake.
If you think this could be the slot game for you, carry on reading our Starburst Galaxy review for all the information you need to know about this game.
How to Play
Bets per spin in the Starburst slot game start from 20p and rise to £28. The game starts on a 5×5 grid but this can expand throughout the game to a 7×7 grid. As this is a cluster pays slot game, there are no set paylines. Instead, winning combinations are formed by landing 3 or more matching symbols next to each other. This can be either horizontally or vertically. It does not matter where this cluster lands on the reels.
The symbols on the reels of this game are:
- Purple gem
- Blue gem
- Red gem
- Green gem
- Yellow gem
- Red 7
- Golden BAR
- Starburst logo wild
- Moon scatter
Jackpot
In the base game, the golden BAR is the highest value symbol on the reels and can award up to 250x your stake for 7 or more in a winning cluster. The largest payout available in the Starburst Galaxy slot game is 25,000x your stake and this could be achieved through the special features.
Special Features
There are special features in the Starburst Galaxy slot game including an avalanche feature, wild symbol, a feature generator, a galaxy star feature, a galaxy meter, a mega star feature and a multiplier collect meter.
The avalanche feature is present in Starburst Galaxy. Each time a winning combination is formed, the symbols in that combo will be removed from the reels and new symbols can drop into place. This can potentially create additional winning combinations and award larger cash prizes.
The Starburst symbol is the game’s wild and it can replace other symbols on the reels to help form additional winning combinations and potentially provide larger wins. If 3 or more Starburst wilds land in a line but they can’t produce a winning combo alongside other symbols, then the paytable’s highest possible payout is awarded. What’s more, if a winning combo is formed without a wild symbol, then a wild symbol will be placed in the centre of the win. This wild can placed left of centre for horizontal win with an even number of symbols or to the top of centre for vertical wins with an even number of symbols. Two or more overlapping wins will each get a wild symbol too.
Next, we have the feature generator where symbols in winning combos will be added to the generator meter. After 5 consecutive wins, 1 of 5 randomly features is triggered:
- Destroy – at least 1 random symbol type is removed from the reels.
- Random wilds – between 3 and 9 symbols are replaced with wilds.
- Expanding wilds – all wilds are transformed into stacks of 3.
- Line transform – a whole row or reel is filled with a randomly selected symbol.
- Upgrade – 1 or more symbols are upgraded to a higher value.
The galaxy star feature triggers when the 5th feature is awarded from the feature generator. The grid will then expand to 7×7 in size plus a wild 3×3 in size will be added randomly to reels. Winning symbols will disappear after they have been calculated and 4 to 8 standard wild symbols will be placed on the reels. If another win doesn’t occur, then the rest of the features in the Feature Generator will trigger one after the other.
When the 3×3 wild is on the reels, the galaxy meter will activate. All wins are added to this meter and when it hits 50, the galaxy star feature triggers. The meter will then reset.
When 3 or more scatter symbols land on the reels, the mega star feature triggers. A 2×2 wild symbol is added to the reels after a non-winning avalanche. After wins are awarded and the winning symbols are removed, between 2 and 5 standard wild symbols are added randomly in the next avalanche. This feature is activated before any features in the Feature Generator are awarded as well as any not activated features. Scatter symbols with multipliers of between 2x and 25x can be randomly added to the reels and this triggers the multiplier collect meter. This displays all of the multipliers that are added to the winning combinations until the round finishes.
Graphics and Sounds
Just like the original Starburst slot game, players will be transported to outer space in the Starburst Galaxy slot. A full galaxy of planets and stars acts as the backdrop to the transparent reel grid. On the reels, the symbols are reminiscent of the original game too but the graphics are much higher quality. This includes blue gems, purple gems, red gems, green gems, red gems, yellow gems, red 7s and golden BARs as well as scatter moon symbols. A futuristic soundtrack plays in the background as you spin which works perfectly with the overall theme of the game.
Conclusion
For those who love the original Starburst game and Starburst XXXtreme, Starburst Galaxy is a fantastic new addition to this series. The graphics have been updated but the same cosmic galaxy theming remains. While the original game is extremely simple, this game takes the complete opposite approach as it is jam-packed with thrilling bonus features. Plus, with wins of up to 25,000x your stake up for grabs, this is an out of this world slot that everyone will want to try spinning!
