Wolf Gold Slot Review
Wolf Gold is an online slot that has been created by Pragmatic Play. Since its release in 2017 Wolf Gold has gone on to be among Pragmatic Play’s most popular slot games.
Why Wolf Gold is so popular is something of a mystery, as it’s a fairly simplistic slot (perhaps that is its secret!) with basic but effective graphics and limited features. This slot is based around North American native animals like mountain lions, bison, mustangs and bald eagles – all make an appearance as well as wolves.
If you want to find out why this slot has become such a howling success for Pragmatic Play, you’ll just have to keep on reading our WhichBingo Wolf Gold review!
How to Play
Your visit to the prairies of the wildest parts of the USA begins as soon as you select your stake. This can be from a minimum of £0.25 up to the maxed-out value of £125. This slot has 25 paylines so you are, in effect, paying one coin per paylines.
This slot has the standard five reels and three rows. Wins are achieved by landing a sequence of at least three identical symbols across a payline from the left-hand reel onwards.
Wins are paid in coins, and you can see how much you could possibly win for a complete line of five symbols via the details below:
- 5 x Wolves = 500 coins (max £2,500)
- 5 x Bison = 500 coins (max £2,500)
- 5 x Bald Eagles = 400 coins (max £2,000)
- 5 x Mustangs = 300 coins (max £1,500)
- 5 x Mountain Lions = 200 coins (max £1,000)
- 5 x Aces = 50 coins (max £250)
- 5 x Kings = 50 coins (max £250)
- 5 x Queens = 50 coins (max £250)
- 5 x Jacks = 50 coins (max £250)
Jackpot
Wolf Gold comes with three jackpots, but they are not progressive jackpots and are instead linked to the value of your chosen wager (in coins – remember each spin costs 25 coins as there are 25 paylines). The ‘Mini’ jackpot is set at 750 coins, the ‘Major’ jackpot at 2,500 coins and the ‘Mega’ jackpot at 25,000 coins.
Bonus Features
Wild Symbols
Appropriately, the Wolf symbol is wild in Wolf Gold and it substitutes for all other symbols aside from the scatter and money symbols. It is often stacked too, giving the chance of better wins when it appears.
Scatter Symbols
Scatters only appear on the end reels and the middle reel. You need to land three scatter symbols – one on each available reel –to trigger free spins. You are awarded five free spins.
Free Spins
During your free spins, the central three reels merge into one to become one giant 3×3 symbol that acts as nine separate symbols.
If you land three more scatters during free spins then three further free spins are added to your total, with no limitations as to how many times this can happen.
Money Respins
Money symbols are present on all reels. You need to land six money symbols to trigger Money Respins. Here, all other symbols are removed from the reels so only Money symbols remain. You begin with three spins and on any spin when a new Money symbol lands the number of spins remaining is reset to three.
This continues until no more Money symbols land. At the end of the round, all the values contained within the money symbols are totalled to give you your cash award. If enough ‘Mini’ or ‘Major’ money symbols land then you are awarded the specific jackpot. If you fill all fifteen positions then you are awarded the Mega jackpot.
Graphics and Sounds
There is barely any music in this slot. The game is played against a backdrop of typical prairie sounds – birds chirping and of course, wolves howling. The music – when it does fade in – sounds more South American than North American but as it is kept in the background that hardly matters. It is the reels themselves that seem to make the most noise, with plenty of stabs and crescendos when wins are scored.
The symbols are pleasant enough with the odd bit of animation when they land in a win. This though is not a game for those whose slots have to come with a sizeable side order of eye candy.
Conclusion
While there is nothing wrong with Wolf Gold it is still a little tough to work out why it has become so popular – perhaps its simplicity is the key to its success? The wins are not huge by most standards and the excitement comes in trying to land the feature symbols. There are plenty of better slots out there, and indeed Pragmatic Play has made better slots, but you can’t argue with success and popularity and we do not intend to.
