Many moons ago, the online software company Playtech were the kings of Marvel-themed slots. Ironman, Spiderman, The Hulk, Thor, The Fantastic Four … they all had their own, dedicated Marvel superhero-themed online video slots.

Then along came Mickey Mouse and his Disney bosses who decided to buy Marvel. As they didn’t want the family-friendly name of Disney to be associated with online gambling, they told Playtech to take a hike and banned them from using Marvel superheroes as the subject of their games.

Therefore, Playtech were left with two dozen or so useless online slots, so, what could they do? They could change all the graphics used with the games and rebrand them ‘Age of the Gods’, which is precisely what they did! They have been adding slots to the ‘Age of the Gods’ range since then, and late in 2019 released ‘Age of the Gods – Apollo Power’.

How to Play

Age of the Gods – Apollo Power is a slot with extra benefits as it has six reels and four rows. The slot has a fixed number of 50 paylines.

To set things in motion you need to choose your bet size, which can be anything from 0.25 to 500.00 per spin. You are, in effect, paying anything from 0.005 to 10.00 per line per spin. All wins are paid as coins, and you need to land at least three identical symbols in sequence on a payline in order to trigger a win. When you are ready for some godly action, hit the spin button.

There are two wild symbols in this game. One is a golden ‘W’ which is wild and also triggers Apollo Power Respins (see below). The other just says ‘WILD’. Both substitute for all other symbols aside from the scatters.

  • 6x ‘W’ wilds = 1,000 coins (max £10,000)
  • 6x ‘WILD’ wilds = 1,000 coins (max £10,000)
  • 6x Apollo symbols = 600 coins (max £6,000)
  • 6x Sword symbols = 160 coins (max £1,600)
  • 6x Bow & Arrow symbols = 120 coins (max £1,200)
  • 6x Harp symbols = 120 coins (max £1,200)
  • 6x Wreath symbols = 80 coins (max £800)
  • 6x Ring symbols = 80 coins (max £800)
  • 6x Ace symbols = 50 coins (max £500)
  • 6x King symbols = 50 coins (max £500)
  • 6x Queen symbols = 50 coins (max £500)
  • 6x Jack symbols = 50 coins (max £500)

Jackpot

Praise the gods! This slot DOES have a progressive jackpot. Well, that’s not strictly true as it has FOUR progressive jackpots:

  • Power – seeds at €50
  • Extra Power – seeds at €500
  • Super Power – seeds at €5,000
  • Ultimate Power – seeds at €100,000

These jackpots are available via any Age of the Gods game, and every player playing any Age of the Gods game at any online casino contributes to the rolling jackpot. The record win for the Ultimate Power jackpot currently stands at €972,723.

The Jackpot Game is triggered randomly, but the higher your stake, the more chance you have of it being triggered. If it is triggered, a playing grid of twenty golden coins is revealed. You keep selecting coins until you uncover four identical jackpot symbols – you then win the jackpot which you have uncovered.

Bonus Features

Apollo Power Respins

If the ‘W’ lands on the reels then this triggers the Apollo Respins feature. After each free respin the symbol moves one symbol either up, down, left or right leaving a trail of wilds behind it. Respins continue until the ‘W’ symbol returns to its original position.

Graphics and Sounds

The music that accompanies this slot is nicely epic, which is about the most that can be said about it. The rest of the sounds are what you’d expect from a slot.

As far as the graphics, you can definitely tell that this game is based upon a re-skinned game as it looks as if the game was released in 2009, not 2019. Time and graphics have moved on apace since Playtech’s Marvel slots were all the rage, and you’d expect something better than this.

Conclusion

In all honesty, Age of the Gods – Apollo Power does not have a lot going for it. It’s kind of scandalous that this slot only has one real feature – Apollo Power Repsins – and even when that triggers the wandering wild seldom goes where you want it to go to maximise your returns from the feature. The main, if not only, reason to play this slot would be in the hope of landing one of those Age of the Gods progressive jackpots.

We’re not impressed, but you might be! Why not take on the gods by playing Age of the Gods – Apollo Power at one of WhichBingo’s recommended online casino, bingo or slots sites?
