Kingdom’s Rise – Reign of Ice Slot Review
Playtech is not only regarded as one of the kings of online slots, but they are also regarded as one of the kings, if not THE king, of themed online slots with a linked progressive jackpot. A decade or so ago, online casinos were awash with slots in Playtech’s ‘Marvel’ series, linking Ironman, Superman, The Hulk and many others with a progressive jackpot.
When Disney bought Marvel they took away Playtech’s licence, so Playtech simply rebranded and re-skinned them as ‘Age of the Gods’ and they kept on rolling.
In more recent times, Playtech has unleashed upon the slotting world their new ‘Kingdoms Rise’ series, which has more in common with sprawling fantasy epics like ‘Game of Thrones’ than the legends of Ancient Greece. Reign of Ice is the fourth slot created in this series, following on from Guardians of the Abyss, Forbidden Forest and Sands of Fury.
Read on to find out how Reign of Ice stands up against the previous game epics in this thrilling series of progressive slots.
How to Play
Kingdoms Rise – Reign of Ice has five reels and a fixed number of 25 paylines. The set up of the slot could not be more ‘traditional’, as the five reels are spread over three rows.
Instead of mucking about with coins here you need simply to specify your total bet. This can be anything from 0.05 to 100.00. All winning payouts are paid as a multiple of your total bet.
Wins are paid in the usual way – you need to land at least three identical symbols in sequence from the left-hand reels onwards. All symbols, of course, need to be on one of the 25 paylines.
A blue-and-gold symbol is wild in this game. It appears on the middle three reels only, it substitutes for all other symbols aside from the Hammer Wild symbol.
Speaking of which, the Hammer Wild symbol only appears on reel two and acts as a wild every time the Barbarian or the Valkyrie appears on the screen and attempts to release the hammer from the ice. Hammer Wilds are collected at the top of the reels and trigger Hammer Respins.
· 5 x Barbarian symbols = 300 x total bet (max £30,000)
· 5 x Valkyrie Lady symbols = 250 x total bet (max £25,000)
· 5 x Axe symbols = 125 x total bet (max £12,500)
· 5 x Swords symbols = 100 x total bet (max £10,000)
· 5 x Mace symbols = 100 x total bet (max £10,000)
· 5 x Blue Gem Symbols = 75 x total bet (max £7,500)
· 5 x Red Gem symbols = 75 x total bet (max £7,500)
· 5 x Purple Gem symbols = 50 x total bet (max £5,000)
· 5 x Green Gem symbols = 50 x total bet (max £5,000)
There are three progressive jackpots associated with this game. All players playing any Kingdoms Rise game at any online casino make a contribution to the totals of these jackpots, which roll over until they are won, or until specific conditions are met.
· Epic jackpot: Can be won on any spin
· Power Strike Jackpot: Must be won before the amount shown is reached
· Daily Strike Jackpot: Must be won by the indicated time is reached
Any wild that lands upon the reels will freeze until a Wild symbol lands on the second reel from the left. When this happens, a hammer will fall from the top of the reels and a respin is triggered. The hammer will also contain a multiplier from x1 to x5 which multiplies any win that it forms a part of. Respins continue until all active hammers have fallen from the top of the reels.
Kingdoms Rise Shop
During play, you will be collecting tokens which appear on symbols during any spin. You can then use these tokens to buy features from the Kingdoms Rise shop.
This shop is open at any time and you can use your token to buy a feature on any Kingdoms Rise slot, and not just the one you are playing. For example, you could use them to buy Hammer respins, Barbarian respins or Valkyrie respins for Reign of Ice, or for a different game such as the Queen’s Ritual Bonus on the Sands of Fury slot, or the Wild Vortex feature on the Guardians of the Abyss slot.
Graphics and Sounds
The graphics for this game are of a very high standard indeed and even look ‘Playtech-ie’. If you have played any number of Playtech slots then you will understand what we are trying to say. They fit in very well with the overall ‘Kingdoms Rise’ theme and the four titles that have preceded this one.
The music and sound effects are very effective too, having a sweeping, epic quality befitting of such a fantasy-driven game.
It was about time a software provider came along and shook the slotting world up a little. The ‘buying features’ aspect of slots came in during 2019 but Playtech has taken matters a stage further by offering features of one slot that can be ‘purchased’ while you are playing a different one. It’s a unique concept and at least you are using collected ‘coins’ via Kingdoms Rise, and – unlike others – not your own cash.
Reign of ice is a very fitting, playable and entertaining new entry in Playtech’s Kingdoms Rise series of progressive jackpot slots.
