There have of course been other forms of hybrid slots games, and even games which combine slots and bingo (think of Slingo games, for example), but we have never played a game like Muertitos Video Bingo before. It is more of a bingo game than an online slot, although UK slots players will no doubt find enough similarities in the gameplay to keep them engaged.

First released in September 2021, the game uses the same Mexican Day of the Dead theme and characters from the popular Book of Muertitos slot (released in April of the same year), and it is highly atmospheric in its look and feel, like so many Spearhead Studios games.

Celebrate your number coming up and play Muertitos Video Bingo at any of our featured UK online casinos.

How to play

You can play between 1 and 4 bingo cards at any time, each one featuring 3 rows of 5 randomly generated numbers. You can retain the same numbers for each spin, or change them at any time by clicking on any card.

There are 18 patterns that you have to try and match (the bingo equivalent of paylines) from a draw of 30 balls (out of a possible 60). It is possible for another 10 balls to be drawn if the extra blast phase is triggered, and hitting pattern 2 triggers the bonus round.

After the 30 balls have been drawn, if you are one number away from hitting any pattern 1 to 14, the option of drawing an extra ball for free can be available. At other times, an extra ball can be purchased for the amount shown on the screen.

Wagers range in size from ÂŁ0.05 to ÂŁ25 per card, so the minimum bet is ÂŁ0.05 and the maximum wager is ÂŁ100.

Jackpot

The maximum jackpot you can win on Muertitos Video Bingo is 1,800x card value (ÂŁ45,000 when betting the max).

This is a very high volatility game offering a 92.95% RTP.

Special features

Bonus round

Triggered by hitting pattern 2 on any card, you are taken to a separate screen where there are 10 skulls. Each skull conceals a value, and when you select one its value is revealed and that amount is no longer part of the potential prize. After 3, 5 and 7 picks you have the choice to accept the prize you are offered on the screen, or stick and continue playing.

When there are only 3 skulls left, you select one and the value it reveals is your prize for the bonus round.

Graphics and Sounds

Muertitos Video Bingo uses the same theme and characters that first appeared in its earlier Book of Muertitos slot game. The central Day of the Dead character is suitably ominous (the way the eyes follow the balls as they are drawn is quite eerie), while the flickering candles and dark purple colours of the bingo cards all contribute to the atmosphere and feel.

However, unusually for a game from Spearhead Studios, the music soundtrack is disappointingly bland. It is quite muzak-like with only a nod to its Mexican heritage, although it does become a bit more lively and engaging during the bonus feature.

Conclusion

The way this game plays is unique and different to other bingo/slots games we’ve played. The gameplay is quicker and more engaging than Slingo games (another popular combination of slots and bingo action), and it manages to capture the essence of each game really well, thereby appealing to both bingo and slot game players alike. The design of the game creates an engaging atmosphere (even if the music and soundtrack is something of a letdown), and it looks good and is easy to play on any size of screen.

If you like slots, enjoy bingo, or just want to check out a new breed of hybrid game, you can play Muertitos Video Bingo at any of our recommended UK slot sites.
