Leicester Best Mates To Share £250,000 Bingo Win

A Leicester bingo player won a massive £250,000 jackpot and says they’ll be sharing every penny with their friend.

The lucky winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, landed the quarter-of-a-million-pound prize whilst playing on the National Bingo Game at Mecca Bingo Leicester last month.

A regular at the club, he was introduced to bingo by his friend many years ago, and the pair have been attending sessions together at Mecca’s Aylestone Road venue ever since.

A Tradition of Sharing Prizes

Over the years, the friends have built a simple tradition: whenever one of them wins, they share the prize.

So, when the Leicester local matched every number on his ticket to claim a ‘full house‘ within the first 14 numbers called – triggering the huge £250,000 National Bingo Game jackpot – there was never any question about splitting the prize money.

“It still hasn’t sunk in”

After taking a moment to realise what had happened, the Leicester local said he was “overwhelmed” with joy.

“We were so grateful for all the love and congratulations from other customers,” he said. “It still hasn’t sunk in.”

The winner is believed to be planning a family holiday with some of the prize money.

“The whole room suddenly went quiet”

Scott Backus, the host on the night of the win said the game had felt routine.

“Then, on the 14th number, I heard someone shout. The whole room suddenly went quiet while we checked the claim and as soon as it was confirmed, the club absolutely erupted.

“At first, the winner couldn’t believe it – he was completely stunned, and so was I! Being able to announce a £250,000 jackpot winner was an incredible moment. I was genuinely shaking.”

Andrew Smith, general manager, at Mecca Bingo Leicester said they were thrilled to see the two players take home the jackpot

They are best mates and share all their winnings. They’re such well liked members of the club, so everyone is so pleased for them, and we hope they have an amazing time enjoying their winnings with their loved ones.”
