Eyes Down, Forks Up: We're Calling Bingo on Christmas Dinner!

Christmas is the season for food, family, and, of course, a good game of bingo.

But let’s face it, those classic calls could use a little festive spice!

We’ve teamed up with the ultimate food connoisseur and bingo expert Tubz to craft a brand new set of Christmas Food Bingo Calls and get his take on the most important meal of the year.

Let the festive feasting begin!

The Mains:

Number 3, Christmas tea!

It’s Christmas Day, you’ve hit a few presents, and now the hunger pangs are setting in.

When we called ‘Christmas Tea,’ we wanted to know: Is the best meal a big family affair, or a quiet moment of culinary bliss?

Tubz’s Verdict: My favourite Christmas meal is a Christmas dinner cooked at home by myself, sometimes alone or sometimes with guests.

Number 4, Turkey at the door!

Knock, knock. The star of the show has arrived.

This is where most cooks crumble, but not Tubz. When the bird is at the door, how does our expert guarantee a moist, flavour-packed centrepiece?

Tubz’s Tip: A turkey needs to be stuffed with a nice stuffing and covered in a smoked streaky bacon and roasted in the oven.

Number 8, A full plate!

When we call ‘A Full Plate,’ what are the essential ingredients for Tubz’s perfect Christmas dinner? We needed a list, and boy, did we get one.

Tubz’s Tip: It’s got to be turkey, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, cauliflower cheese, Pigs in blankets, stuffing, home made Yorkshire pudding, honey roast carrots, brussel sprouts, broccoli, peas and extra thick gravy.

Number 10, Christmas hen!

Sometimes you don’t want the fuss of a massive turkey. Maybe you’re feeding a smaller crowd, or maybe you just prefer something a little more manageable. So, when ‘Christmas Hen’ is called, what are Tubz’s golden rules for picking a fantastic roast chicken?

Tubz’s Tip: I pick a nice whole chicken from the butchers that is extra big and juicy.

Number 22, Two roast chickens

Chicken or turkey? Or Duck? Or Guinea Fowl? Which is best?

Tubz’s Verdict: Turkey is the best meat to have on Christmas Day.

Number 31, Turkey’s done!

We’ve talked a lot about turkeys, chickens, and hens, but how do you know your turkey is cooked to perfection?

Tubz’s Tip: Using a meat thermometer to get the perfect temperature and check the juices are running clear.

The Sides:

Number 11, Two pigs in blankets

Here’s where the debates start! The single most popular side dish, the magnificent ‘Pig in a Blanket.’ But how do you dress them? When the two little sausages roll in at number 11, we asked Tubz to settle the sticky controversy once and for all.

Are pigs in blankets better with honey, or without honey?

Tubz’s Tip: Without.

Number 17, A side of green beans

When it comes to the supporting cast, everyone has their preference. There are lots of great side dishes; roast potatos, Yorkshire puddings, and more. But what is the best Christmas side dish?

Tubz’s Verdict: Pigs in Blankets are the best side dish on a Christmas Dinner.

Number 49, Mulled wine!

It’s time to unwind! Forty-nine brings us to the ultimate festive tipple: mulled wine. It’s warm, spicy, and immediately transports you into a Christmas wonderland. But what’s the perfect setting to enjoy a cup?

Tubz’s Verdict: Drinking mulled wine around the tree with the family singing Christmas songs.

Number 80, Mash and gravy!

Eighty is all about the glorious, glossy, finishing touch: the gravy.

Gravy can make or break a dinner, and everyone has a secret ingredient. When ‘Mash and Gravy’ is called, we put Tubz on the spot. What’s his winning, extra-thick gravy formula?

Tubz’s Tip: Use meat and veg juices with a stock pot and some gravy granules to get a nice thick gravy.
