The Secret Traitor Twist Explained
This year, Claudia Winkleman has introduced something the series has never done before: The Secret Traitor.
Instead of viewers knowing exactly who the normally 3 Traitors are from the opening scenes, the Secret Traitor twist means even the audience is left guessing and that’s what makes Season 4 feel instantly different.
Former Traitor and fan favourite Paul Gorton says the twist is the best thing the show has ever introduced.
“The Secret Traitor is the best addition to a television show I’ve ever seen in my life. It is that good”.
According to Paul, this twist isn’t just a big change for the players in the castle, it changes everything for fans at home too.
“They’ve created six million faithful at home who now have to sit and find a Secret Traitor”.
In other words… We’re all Faithful now.
Why The Twist Has Fans Obsessed Already
Part of what makes The Traitors so addictive is that viewers usually have a huge advantage because we know who the Traitors are and can watch the chaos unfold.
But this time, that security is gone.
Paul believes the Secret Traitor twist has made people realise one important thing: Spotting a Traitor isn’t as easy as it looks, especially when everyone is nervous, emotional, and terrified of being murdered.
“Everyone now looks as bad of a faithful as the faithfuls do in the actual show”.
And for fans convinced they’ll “just know” who the Secret Traitor is… Paul has a warning:
“You can’t “just know”… you won’t be able to notice it”.
When is the Traitors On?
Season 4 of The Traitors is airing on BBC One, with episodes also available to stream on BBC iPlayer after broadcast.
The series kicked off with a three-episode launch week, meaning three episodes have already aired, and there are nine more still to come.
From now on, new episodes will air three nights a week at the earlier time of 8pm every:
- Wednesday
- Thursday
- Friday
So if you’re watching along trying to work out who the Secret Traitor is, you’ll want to keep your evenings free because there’s plenty more chaos ahead.

Who Does Paul Think The Secret Traitor Could Be?
Paul admits the Secret Traitor twist makes it almost impossible to predict… but he still has a few names he’s keeping an eye on.

His early theories involve Amanda and Sam.

Amanda is a retired police detective and Paul thinks her experience could make her one of the most dangerous players in the game.
Sam, meanwhile, made it very clear he wanted to be a Traitor from the start, which Paul says could make him a likely Secret Traitor candidate.
But what does Paul really want?
A total surprise.
“I want it to be someone completely random, someone people don’t even know the name of yet”.
Saturday’s episode also added another twist, with a challenge that could help the Traitors uncover the Secret Traitor’s identity. Safe to say, the stakes just got even higher.
Why Season 4 Could Be The Most Intense Yet
Even after just three episodes, it’s clear Season 4 isn’t holding back.
Between the new twist, a strong cast, and the unpredictability of the Secret Traitor, this series is already shaping up to be one of the most dramatic yet with fans watching every glance, every conversation, and every nervous slip-up in the hope of catching someone out.
And if Paul is right, we’re in for a season where nobody, not even the viewers can feel confident about what they’re seeing.
