Serengeti Kings Review
NetEnt have released a slot that’s best played on the plains of Africa: Serengeti Kings. One of NetEnt’s first releases for 2020.
It’s a jungle out there, and that’s never truer when you consider the amazing number of online slots available with jungle themes. Jungle Jim Eldorado, The Lost Riches of Amazon and Mad Mad Monkey are just three of the names we can conjure out of our brains when we are thinking about such slots, and you’ve probably played all three of them at one time or another.
NetEnt are not shy about celebrating what rumbles in the jungle and have, over their time in the business released plenty of slots that offer growling tigers, gibbering monkeys and chattering parrots. Everyone’s favourite conquistador (although we admit that’s probably not a very long list) Gonzo can of course be found in the Aztec Jungle, while it was the beastly version of the Olympics that featured in Jungle Games.
Now NetEnt have, fresh for January 2020, released a slot that’s best played on the plains of Africa: Serengeti Kings. Read on to find out what the slotting gurus at WhichBingo think about one of NetEnt’s first releases for 2020.
How to Play
Serengti Kings is a 5-reel, 4-row online video slot. Despite the enlarged playing grid, this slot has only 26 possible paylines which are in play every spin. To win a cash prize while playing this slot, you need to land at least three identical symbols in sequence from the left-hand reel onwards.
As opposed to a coin size, you simply select your ‘bet-per-spin’ for each round of this game. This starts off at 0.10 and goes all the way up to 100.00. You may find a different range of bet sizes available when you play, as the range can be determined by the casino at which you are playing the game.
If you don’t want to wait around for the various features that enhance this game, you can buy them instead. You can buy 3, 4 or 5 scatters, which is enough to trigger the bonus game. To do this, click the ‘Buy Free Spins’ option. The cost of each purchase will then be displayed.
The ‘Golden Wild’ symbol can appear anywhere on the reels during both the base game and free spins. It substitutes for all other symbols aside from the scatter symbols.
- 5 x Wild Symbols = 50 x bet size (max £5,000)
- 5 x Panther symbols = 5 x bet size (max £500)
- 5 x Lion symbols = 5 x bet size (max £500)
- 5 x Hyena symbols = 3 x bet size (max £300)
- 5 x Giraffe symbols = 3 x bet size (max £300)
- 5 x Zebra symbols = 2 x bet size (max £200)
- 5 x Meerkat symbols = 2 x bet size (max £200)
- 5 x Ace symbols = 1 x bet size (max £100)
- 5 x King symbols = 1 x bet size (max £100)
- 5 x Queen symbols = 1 x bet size (max £100)
- 5 x Jack symbols = 1 x bet size (max £100)
- 5 x Ten symbols = 1 x bet size (max £100)
You might roar your disapproval when you find out that this slot does not have any kind of progressive jackpot.
Lion Spins and Panther Spins
The battle for the title of lord of the Serengeti rages throughout this game, and it’s case of lions v panthers. During the first twelve spins all lion symbols are collected and after the twelfth spin they are randomly distributed across the board. All wins are calculated and then the game switches to panther spins mode. All panther symbols are collected for a dozen spins then scatter, just like lion spins.
If a panther symbol lands upon a lion symbol, then that symbol turns wild. The same happens the other way around after lion spins. Lion, panthers and wilds can all also contain prize multipliers.
Free spins are triggered when three or more scatters land on the reels. You are awarded twelve free spins if you land three scatters. With four, you get a dozen free spins plus the same number of symbols as collected as lion symbols and panther symbols. The same happens with five free spins except that you get a bonus award of five of each.
Graphics and Sounds
You might not quite imagine you are on the planes of Africa while you play this game, but NetEnt have gone great lengths to make you feel that you might be. All the necessary jungle sound effects are present here, complete with a random jungle beat.
We’re a little disappointed that NetEnt have decided to join other developers who offer ‘buy feature’ options. We prefer games where you have to work towards gaining free spins, instead of simply going out and buying them. This detracts from what is another decent addition to NetEnt’s ever-expanding slotting universe.
