A unique contestant has hit the stage on the ITV show The Voice and made a big enough impression in the blind audition round to make all four judges, Sire Tom Jones, Olly Murs, Anne-Marie and Will.i.am, turn their chairs.
Fatt Butcher, real name Adam Carver, 32, is a drag queen from Birmingham and on the show they explained their stage name as being a tribute to Eastenders legend Pat Butcher, chosen because they also love ‘statement earrings and leopard print’.
The talented singer paid a visit to Mecca Bingo Acock’s Green Birmingham last year to film for the show as they also love to play at bingo sites when not singing and performing. Everyone present that day managed to keep the secret as there had been no leaks in the press prior to transmission as to the memorable nature of the performer who was to appear on the iconic show.
Toni Cooper, Mecca Bingo, said, “It was great fun. The filming had been arranged but the crew hadn’t shared any details of the act they were recording, so it was a big surprise when Fatt arrived with their entourage, including a blue alien!
“It was hard to keep our eyes down for the bingo with Fatt and their friends in club. But at Mecca Bingo we’re used to giving away big money and we’re hoping our customers’ recent luck rubs off on Fatt – we’re backing them all the way to the final!”
Fatt sang This Woman’s Work by Kate Bush and said, “I wasn’t expecting four of you to turn around so I’m a bit overwhelmed,” before going on to choose Sir Tom Jones as their mentor for the series.
