Goldstruck Slot Review
Naturally, one of the main reasons people play online slots is to ‘strike gold’ – i.e. secure a big win that they can then withdraw to spend elsewhere (including on more online slots or online table games). Now High 5 Games have come up with an online slot where striking gold is your main objective!
Goldstruck is a five-reel, five row online slot which will be released at all online casinos that carry High 5 Games on November 21, 2019. It’s not the first online slot that’s based in a gold mine (‘Boom Brothers’ by NetEnt is perhaps the classic) but could it be among the best?
How to play
Goldstruck is a 5 reel, 5 row, 50 payline online slot where you need to land winning combinations, left-to-right, in order to earn payouts. All 50 paylines are in play every spin, and you can select your coin size per spin from £0.01 to £1, making a range of bets from £0.50 to £500. All wins are paid as a multiple of your coin size.
- The golden nugget symbol is wild and substitutes for all symbols aside from the drill, carts and helmet symbols
- The golden nugget symbol only appears on the middle three reels during normal spins, and all reels aside from the left-hand reel during respins
- The drill symbol is always followed by two truck symbols and only appears on reel 5
- The helmet symbol only appears during respins and free games
- 5x golden nugget symbols (scattered) = 250 coins (max £250)
- 5x miner symbols = 100 coins (max £100)
- 5x canary symbols = 50 coins (max £50)
- 5x ruby symbols = 25 coins (max £25)
- 5x sapphire symbols = 25 coins (max £25)
- 5x amethyst symbols = 25 coins (max £25)
- 5x emerald symbols = 25 coins (max £25)
Jackpot
This game does come with a jackpot of 1,000 coins, which can be won by anyone playing this game at any online casino. This is triggered by the Wild Train feature (see below) and the number of gold nuggets collected during this bonus game. If you collect eight nuggets you earn yourself free games, and if you collect fifteen you win the jackpot.
Special Features
Wild Train Feature
When the drill and trucks symbols appear (in full) on the reels together with a golden nugget (in any position), the Wild Train Feature is triggered. For each spin, the drill symbol will collect any nugget or helmet symbols and move to overlap them. The drill and trucks symbols then become wild for every spin that they appear on the reels for.
Each nugget collected increases the length of the wild train. If a helmet symbol is collected then a random number of miner symbols (from three to seven) are added to the reels. They remain on the reels during spins until no more nuggets or helmets can be collected.
If you land enough nuggets to earn free games then you are awarded three free games during which the wild train remains on the reels.
Graphics and Sounds
There’s an ‘old country’ vibe about the sounds played during the spins. You may enjoy this type of music, but just in case you don’t (a) the music only plays while the reels are spinning and (b) you can turn the music off! The graphics are decent enough, but they are a little static and the animations are not exactly cinematic. Having said that, things improve greatly when the wild train is hammering its way around the reels!
Conclusion
High 5 Games have yet to make a name for themselves as a purveyor of the very best casino games, and they don’t have the same kind of reputation of other relatively new software providers such as Red Tiger, Play’n GO or Yggdrasil. Goldstruck may enhance that reputation a little bit as the Wild Train bonus game is truly innovative, but if we were to pigeon-hole this particular game we’d place it in the ‘good but not great’ slot. It’s game that’s definitely worth your time, but just how much of it is up to you.
