New figures released have shown a substantial uptake in the use of safer gambling tools during last year’s Safer Gambling Week. 2023’s Safer Gambling Week was held from November 13th to November 19th and promoted an exciting campaign on the use of safer gambling tools when gambling.
Safer Gambling Week is organised by the Betting and Gaming Council and is in its 7th year. It brings together many different areas of the gambling industry including bingo clubs, casinos, bookmakers and online gambling companies together with stakeholders and charities to help encourage and promote safer gambling practices.
The figures from last year’s Safer Gambling Week campaign are finally in and it has been a huge success. There was an increase of 12.5% in the number of players setting a deposit limit compared to November 2022 – the actual number reaching 83,242. 54% of those who set deposit limits did it for the first time and the number of players who set a maximum stake limit also increased over 300%.
What’s more, there was a 300% increase for the second year running in the number of players setting reality checks during Safer Gambling Week. The campaign also had a big week on social media with more than 50 million impressions recorded across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
The CEO of the Betting and Gaming Council, Michael Dugher, said of the 2023 campaign that it was a ‘powerful advert’ for safer gambling tools and that bringing together MPSs, the Gambling Commission and the gambling sector helped to turbocharge the work that they are doing. Safer Gambling Week 2024 is set to take place from November 18th to the 24th.
