About Luda Bingo
In August 2016 Mecca Bingo owner Rank Group announced a brave new move. The Maidenhead based company was to launch a new high street brand called Luda that would have cross-channel functionality. That means that some of the features available on the high street will be transferable to an online bingo site too.
The first store opened in mid-2017 and marked the start of a new multi-brand approach from Rank. Competition is growing in the online bingo market and so the firm want to offer more to the players out there outside their market leading brand Mecca Bingo.
Luda will be based on a more ‘drop-in convenience store’ basis, rather than the big bingo halls that we currently associate with high street bingo hall. It turned out that the actual ‘bingo’ tag is missing altogether and the outlets and online site will simply be known as Luda. With this being the case then slots could have been the major feature of these outlets and any online offer. As it turns out the brand came up with a new, faster and simpler version of bingo on electronic terminals and mixed it with retro video games and state of the art slots.
The aim is definitely to entice the younger player and to smash the dated concept of bingo to widen the market.
The first high street bingo ‘store’ was in Walsall. Significant investment is being ploughed in with the initial lease costing £12m and a follow up refurbishment with an estimated cost of £900k.
These venues will have a cafe/bar area in which Luda bingo can be played on the special terminals and an electric lounge which is the new name for the high paying jackpot machines area. Longer opening hours are envisaged than is usual for bingo halls – possibly from 7am to midnight.
