Mecca Bingo’s New Ad Campaign ‘Legends of Play’ – A Historical Hoot
Nothing to see here, just Mecca Bingo doing typical Mecca Bingo things—bringing a mix of comedy, quirkiness, and memorable voiceovers (shoutout to Jessica Knappett) to the bingo scene.
18+. New online customers only. Deposit (PayPal & PaySafe Excluded) & Play £10 on Bingo within 7 days to get £40 Bingo Bonus, 50 Free Spins & Club Voucher. Selected games, wagering requirement & expiry dates apply. T&Cs apply Please play responsibly. Gambleaware.org #AD. Full T&Cs Apply.
Its new ad series, ‘Legends of Play since back in the day’ kicks off with Henry VIII celebrating a big win on his jewel-encrusted (mobile!) phone in a grand banquet hall. Anne Boleyn makes a frowning cameo as Knappett says “‘Let the good times roll (it’s normally heads that roll round here)”.
The fun is just beginning. Cleopatra will make an appearance in future ads and a gang of cavemen playing on stone tablets is also set to appear. We can’t wait to see it.
What the Creators Say
Anna Venturas, Marketing Director at Rank Interactive, including Mecca Bingo, says:
“We’re excited to launch Mecca’s biggest advertising campaign to date. As the nation’s most recognizable bingo brand, we wanted a campaign that nods to our expertise while using Mecca’s playful tone to attract new players. We’re delighted that Mission has hit the spot with ‘Legends of Play.’”
Dylan Bogg, Chief Creative Officer at MISSION who helped create the campaign adds: “We’re thrilled to launch a stand-out and fun new positioning for Mecca Bingo. Our tongue-in-cheek campaign celebrates Mecca as the original bingo brand with a fun twist, showing that Mecca really is the legend of play since back in the day.”
By blending historical and legendary figures into the bingo experience, Mecca Bingo is cleverly (and comedically) keeping itself in the spotlight. This campaign isn’t just about entertainment; it’s a strategic move to stay relevant in a competitive market.
Mecca Bingo’s Dedication to Charitable Causes Moves like these help Mecca Bingo and parent company Rank Group stay popular, enabling them to keep supporting its charitable partners. This is evident in the recent extension of Mecca Bingo’s partnership with Carers Trust until 2027. The collaboration reflects Rank’s support for unpaid carers across the UK and showcases how the company balances brand recognition with meaningful social responsibility through fundraising and awareness efforts.
Over the last 10 years, Rank has helped over 14k carers through grants for respite breaks and household items like whitegoods. Rank has raised funds, contributing more than £323,000 just this past year. £4,000 was raised by two Rank runners running in the London Marathon, and 20 colleagues raised over £32,000 by climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon.
Keeping It Fresh
It’s campaigns like ‘Legends of Play’ right now and the unforgettable ‘Twerking Cactus’ back in 2014 and everything in between, that keep Mecca Bingo as one of the big players in the bingo game. A brand that can entertain and appeal to the crowds, while also making a difference. It’s a perfect example of Mecca Bingo’s creative flair that, combined with ongoing support for important charities, shows how to stay a celebrated name in the gaming world. Look out for the ads which launched on 25th July across ITV, Media 15, Axiom, 360 Media and Sky channels.
