Methodology
Our analysis took the average price of 20 hotels on the night of each concert and compared it to the same day in the previous or following week.
This approach highlights how significantly hotel prices fluctuate with the arrival of major music events, providing insight into how fans’ expenses can balloon due to surging accommodation costs.
When looking at types of accommodation in some cities like Cardiff we saw prices of up to 300£ for a bed in a 16 bed dorm. Noting that there may be other events happening in these cities like the Edinburgh Fringe and Premier League home games that may lead to the cost spikes.
Feedback from the Artists
Many artists stress the fact that they try to keep ticket costs to a minimum to ensure access to tickets to as many of their fans as possible. The costs of tickets even with the controversial dynamic pricing seems to be the least of their worries.
This trend suggests that fans eager to see their favorite artists might need to budget as much for accommodation as they do for tickets, if not more.
